We’ve just had a Health and Safety audit and we’re delighted to say we passed with flying colours.
Our very own Operations Manager, Nick Walker, was honoured at last night’s ceremony in Birmingham. Nick was recognised as a Driver of Cultural Change, Unsung Hero and Young Pioneer.
On Monday 8th August we took delivery of our latest piece of machinery in the form of a new Homag Holzma HPP 300 Beam Saw.
The team from Spectrum Freight unloaded and had the main body of the machine in situ within an hour and the ancillary parts were unloaded approximately 30 minutes later.
Miraculously the new beam saw was fully operational after 48 hours and the machine shop were fully trained to use the new machine within the week thanks to the help of the brilliant fitter sent by Homag.
Our new Holzma HPP 300 is capable of cutting panels at over twice the speed of our outgoing machine and is accurate to within a miniscule 0.1mm.
The system is also considerably more eco-friendly as it has been designed to reduce energy consumption and extend saw blade life.
For more information on Homag machines visit: www.homag-uk.co.uk
The new machine is now fully operational and fulfilling screen and top orders at a considerable rate.

On the 12th October British Cycling announced their academy team for 2015/2016 and Screentek are very proud to say that we were a part of the journey for one of the young riders included on their list.
Paddy Sharrock is a familiar name in the offices at Screentek HQ as in 2013 we gathered a select band of our customers and suppliers to send Paddy to the 2013 BMX World Championships in New Zealand and helped him get spotted by the British Cycling team.
Cycling is a big part of the Screentek history having seen our own MD ride BMX in his early years so it was a natural fit to help out a talented young rider like Paddy and more recently the company has also been sponsoring the British Cycling North West Youth Tour
“We are so pleased to see Paddy awarded his place on the British Cycling Academy. No one in BMX will be surprised but it’s so nice to see someone with natural ability find their sport and work hard to reward the faith that others have had in them.” – Jason Iddon, MD Screentek
The list of companies who kindly sponsored Paddy alongside Screentek are R&D Extrusions, OPlan, Mercol, C&F Fabrications, Future Office, Claremont Centre, EFG, BT Office Furniture, Hurst Joinery, Sapa and Fairhurst Accountants.
The support Screentek arranged has helped me achieve what I’ve achieved and become the rider I am today, I am more than grateful for the support and can’t thank all the companies involved enough” – Paddy Sharrock

In 2014 Paddy was selected to race internationally for the British Cycling team and was officially named in the 2015-2016 academy team squad this week which will include a boot-camp later this year.
In a recent post, GB Cycling Team performance pathway manager, Ian Yates, said: “We’ve selected a strong squad of riders this year. The competition for selection is one of the toughest we’ve ever had and we had to make some really difficult decisions to decide who made it on to the academy.”
We’ll be keeping close tabs on Paddy over the coming few years and fully expect to see him representing Team GB at an Olympic games in the future; a massive achievement for a very talented young rider and a great inspiration for the regions next batch of talent.

August was another very busy month at Screentek HQ with our continued development in the factory. As part of the £700k investment we took delivery of our latest machine in the way of a Homag CNC and edge banding machine.
Weighing in at a whopping 5tonnes the Homag machine was very carefully lifted and maneuvered through the factory by the skillful Spectrum Freight who had previously installed the slightly smaller Homag edge bander in July.
The new machine is due to be set-up and installed mid September and will be the manufacturing focal point of our new desking range due for release in the new year and will allow us to both ramp up production and expand the range of our ever popular screening systems.
